F1 GP Austria: Rosberg wins, Mercedes double. Vettel fourth

Nico Rosberg won the Austrian Formula 1 GP ahead of his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. Third place for Felipe Massa (Williams) ahead of Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari, slowed down by a problem securing the right rear during the stop. Kimi Raikkonen immediately out after an accident with Fernando Alonso at the start.

News – At the start Rosberg jumped into the lead, overtaking Hamilton while Vettel followed the two Mercedes. Bad accident at the rear between Raikkonen and Alonso, safety car on track. Both drivers immediately exited the cars, unharmed. Raikkonen was perhaps touched from behind, then the McLaren went entirely onto the front of the Ferrari and crashed into the barriers, fortunately only grazing the Finn.
The ranking after the first lap saw Rosberg ahead of Hamilton, Vettel, Massa, Hulkenberg, Verstappen, Bottas, Nasr, Sainz, Grosjean.

The race restarted on lap seven, Rosberg maintained the lead and immediately increased his margin over Hamilton while Sainz overtook Grosjean in ninth position. Button was forced to retire on lap 10 due to technical problems: another black weekend for McLaren Honda.

Vettel was unable to keep up with the Mercedes, already losing 6 seconds on lap 13. On lap 15 Bottas overtook Verstappen in sixth place. Rosberg forced the pace and had a 4-second margin over Hamilton but the Englishman moved to 33 seconds on lap 2. Rosberg returned on lap 1 for his stop, putting on soft tires and returning to the track in fourth position. On the next lap it was the Brazilian and Hamilton's turn to stop and the German got back in front of his teammate who touched the white line when exiting the pitlane. Hamilton then suffered a 34 second penalty for this infringement which will be added to his time at the end of the race.

On lap 36 Vettel stopped, slowed down by difficult fixing of the right rear: the German restarted after a 13-second stop, finding himself in fourth position behind Massa while Rosberg regained the lead of the race ahead of Hamilton with a margin of 4 seconds.

On lap 38 Sainz and Grosjean retired while Perez overtook Nasr in tenth place. Rosberg steadily increased his lead over Hamilton to 7" on lap 47 while Vettel closed on Massa to 2"1 on lap 53. The classification on lap 55 saw Rosberg ahead of Hamilton, Massa, Vettel, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Verstappen, Maldonado, Perez and Nasr.

Vettel steadily closed on Massa and on lap 65 found himself close to the Brazilian, in the DRS zone. But the Brazilian defended himself well despite the pressure from the German. Rosberg went on to win ahead of Hamilton, Massa on the bottom step of the podium. Vettel was only fourth with Ferrari, Bottas fifth with the other Williams. Hulkenberg was sixth with Force India ahead of Maldonado's Lotus. Eighth place for Verstappen ahead of Perez's other Force India. Ricciardo with Red Bull closes the top 10.
