F1 | Austrian GP 2025, our report cards

The report cards and grades for the main protagonists of the Austrian GP, with Lando Norris the protagonist of an impeccable weekend, which relaunches his world championship ambitions. Second place for Oscar Piastri, third place for Charles Leclerc ahead of the other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton.

Lando Norris 10 To keep the world championship open after the big mistake in Montreal he had to win (and convince). Mission accomplished. It's a different Norris, very fast and focused, he interprets the curves of the Spielberg Ring in a masterly way from day one. Starting from the deserved pole in the first laps he masterfully repels Piastri's attack, giving his teammate the overtaking. It's there that he wins the race and relaunches himself. Redemption.

Oscar Piastri 9 Unlucky in qualifying, where he fails to complete the final lap, he makes a decisive start from third place, immediately overtaking Leclerc's Ferrari. From there it's a continuous siege on his teammate, hunted like a hare by a hunter, he even tries to overtake him but Norris is quick to return the favor. He exaggerates on lap 20, braking long in turn 4 and the team in a (not so) veiled way freezes the one-two. Indomitable.

Charles Leclerc 8,5 He gets the maximum, namely third place behind the McLarens. Optimizing the potential of the single-seater is nothing new for him. Excellent in qualifying, patience for the somewhat so-so start, but nothing would have changed. He once again beats his teammate and takes home the fourth podium of the season. Victory is still missing, but his performances continue to be Maranello's lifeline. A driving force.

lewis hamilton 7 Not up to Leclerc's level, but the qualifying this time is good (fourth position) and during the first lap he wins a nice wheel-to-wheel duel with Russell, managing to get the better of the Mercedes driver on the outside in the fast section. A beautiful maneuver, which helps to secure a fourth place more useful to the team than to him.

George Russel 6 Mercedes suffers from the heat and the winner of the Canadian GP disappears after a few laps, limiting himself to managing fifth place, on a day where it is more of a rock than a hard place.

Liam Lawson 8 A crazy race, for pace and strategy, that earned him an unexpected sixth position under the checkered flag, on the day when Tsunoda was shipwrecked with Red Bull. Destiny, sometimes. Revenge.

Fernando Alonso 7 He puts all the experience in the world into dueling with younger drivers, including Bortoleto, whose manager he is, and he also gives the impression of having a lot of fun. Protagonist.

Gabriel Bortoleto 7,5 Very fast in qualifying, consistent in the race, wise in duels despite his young age, everyone speaks well of him and little by little we begin to understand why. He is the youngest Brazilian to ever score points, he beats Felipe Massa's record and he does it at the wheel of the same single-seater, the Sauber.

Nico Hulkenberg 7 Ninth behind Bortoleto, completing a rather positive day for Binotto's team.

Esteban Ocon 6,5 In a GP where many supporting actors take on the role of protagonists, the Frenchman pushes hard to take a place on the front row. Tenth at the finish line.

Kimi Antonelli 4 Who knows if it was due to inexperience, bad luck, chance, but the braking lock at the start with which he spreads panic and rams Verstappen is a huge mistake, from which the talented Italian will certainly benefit. Even from days like this the growth of a driver passes, even Verstappen – rather soft in his reaction – knows it.

Max Verstappen sv His GP didn't last long, but the feeling was that it wouldn't have been a walk in the park.

Yuki Tsunoda 4 Going to Red Bull is burning a career. The curse of the second can is hitting him too. In Spielberg he is unwatchable, between lack of performance and gross errors, including a boxing-style hook at Alpine. Bad bad.

Frank Colapinto 4,5 Alpine sinks, he takes less than Gasly but on the other hand he almost throws Piastri out during a dubbing. To be reviewed.

Austrian GP 7 It's a real, fun track, with curves where the driver can make the difference and in fact you see more mistakes. The challenge between the McLaren standard-bearers lasts too little, however.
