18th and 20th position for George Russell and Nicholas Latifi on the first day of free practice valid for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last round of this 2020 Formula 1 world championship. In the splendid setting of Yas Island, the two Williams drivers focus on collecting data for 2021 development, accumulating useful information and kilometers for the team.

It should be noted that during the afternoon Russell was "slowed down" by a suspected problem with the power unit's MGU-K system. The team is currently investigating in view of free practice scheduled for tomorrow morning (11.00 am on Sky Sport F1 HD).

“It was nice to be back driving for this team,” said George Russell. “We are working as best we can to finish this season as best we can. During the sessions we fought on pace with Kimi Raikkonen and Kevin Magnussen, proving quite fast in all conditions. There is obviously still a lot of work to do, also considering the problem during FP2, but we are quite optimistic. Now we will try to prepare the car for tomorrow's sessions."

Here are Nicholas Latifi's assessments: “The last FP1 of the season was quite challenging, given the large amount of data we collected. Today's program focused exclusively on next year. However, looking at the times, we expect a good challenge over the course of this weekend. The circuit is not ideal for our car, but we have the ability to improve the situation. The key is to get all the data in order for tomorrow afternoon's qualifying."
