Ferrari below expectations in the second qualifying at Silverstone
F1 | 70th Anniversary GP, disappointing Saturday for Ferrari at Silverstone

Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel will start from the fourth and sixth rows respectively in the 70th Anniversary Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone which starts tomorrow at 14.10pm local time (15.10pm CET).

Q2. After passing Q1, Sebastian and Charles took to the track in the second phase on Medium tires to have the chance to start the race on that compound. The Monegasque immediately achieved an excellent 1'26"709 which made him safe for the round, while the German struggled more, stopping the clock at 1'27"379. Sebastian therefore returned to the garage to put on Soft tires with the aim of improving. With the softer compound, Vettel actually took three tenths off his time, dropping to 1'27”078 but still remained outside of the ten qualifiers for the final part. The positive side of what was undoubtedly a disappointing Saturday is that the German will be free to mount the tires he prefers for the start of the Grand Prix. Had he qualified with the Soft he would probably have been forced to make a very early pit stop.

Q3. In the twelve decisive minutes for the assignment of the first five rows of the grid, Charles was able to use two sets of new Soft tyres. On the first attempt the Monegasque stopped the clock at 1'26”809 and then returned to the box to set up the second set. Leclerc returned to the track, improving in the first and last sectors, thus bringing his performance to 1'26"614, valid for eighth position on the fourth row.
