F1 | Bitter France for Toro Rosso: Kvyat and Albon out of the top ten
The Russian won the internal challenge with his teammate despite starting from the last row
A race absolutely to forget for Toro Rosso, which was far from the points zone at Le Castellet, with Kvyat fourteenth ahead of Albon. The Russian, however, managed to have an overall good race, given that he started nineteenth also due to the penalty, beating his teammate, eleventh at the start but even behind him at the checkered flag.
“I think the race wasn't bad today – Kvyat said. In the end we gave our all and had some great battles on the track. I did a nice maneuver on the outside on Grosjean, and at the end I also had a nice duel with Alex: it was quite fun! I don't know what we could have done by starting further up the grid without the penalty, we probably would have fought for the points. But now we need to analyze everything a bit and return stronger to Austria."
“Unfortunately our race was compromised on the first lap – Albon admitted. I ran wide at Turn 2 and got cut off. I didn't realize how much grip there was on the outside and I lost several positions. We were faster than the cars in front, but we struggled to overtake them because there was practically a train in the DRS area: so I spent most of the race behind another car. Today we lacked the pace a bit, we need to try to understand why and where we can improve. Fighting with Dany was fun, but doing it outside the points is not what we want."
