F1 | Force India ready to renew Sergio Perez's contract
Szafnauer: "We need to iron out some details with the Mexican sponsors"
Despite the clashes with Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez could keep his seat in Force India in 2018. According to what was declared by the sporting director, Otmar Szafnauer, the team's objective is to confirm the current line-up also in the next season. Mallya is satisfied with the results of the entire team and would like to give continuity to a project that is surprising everyone involved. Szafnauer, however, explained that in addition to Perez, it will also be necessary to discuss the Mexican sponsors who refer to Carlos Slim.
Here are the words of Otmar Szafnauer: “There's not much to agree with Checo. He has always brought Mexican sponsors and therefore we are also discussing the renewal with them. The complicated thing about talking to Checo is that you always have to draw up two contracts. With Sergio we agree on everything, while we have to iron out some details with his sponsors. We hope to close this negotiation soon."
