In an interview with motorsport.com, Sergio Perez spoke about the accident with Sergey Sirotkin during the last Singapore Grand Prix, underlining how the contact was entirely to blame. The Mexican, in fact, underlined how the error arose from a bad evaluation of his position as a factor, a factor that led him to close the trajectory with the Russian inside. An unfortunate episode that the current standard bearer of Racing Point Force India wants to forget quite quickly.

Here are the words of Sergio Perez: “Yes, obviously I watched the episode cold, and in my opinion seen from the outside it gives a worse impression than it actually is. With these mirrors it is very difficult to look behind and at that moment I lost my bearings. I was talking on the radio and I thought he had made his move around the corner before, but in reality I found him on the inside. I misjudged his position."

“I was trying to close the door before braking, but he was too close to me”, he added. “It was just my fault and I received a penalty which I think was fair. Nothing to add, really. I accepted my mistake and the penalty. Unfortunately I ruined my run, but I didn't do it on purpose."
