F1 | Force India asked drivers to lose weight

Singular request from the team to Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez

F1 | Force India asked drivers to lose weight

Throughout the winter, the majority of the circus' drivers trained hard to develop significant kilos of muscle mass and become more prepared than ever to drive the new single-seaters.

The increase in weight, in some cases of 5 or 6 kilos, served to strengthen the neck and prepare the body for the greater stresses received with the increase in speed.

Yet in Force India there seems to be the opposite problem: Auto Motor und Sport has reported on a very singular choice by the Indian team to reduce the weight of the car by the start of the world championship.

“We asked our pilots to reach 70 kilograms by Melbourne” – said the technical director Andrew Green. Ocon and Perez will therefore have to lose two kilos, both weighing 72 kg.

He is the deputy team principal Bob Fernley to explain the team's difficulties in adapting to the new regulations and in reaching the overall weight necessary to avoid incurring sanctions. In any case, the objective continues to be to do well and try to repeat last year's exploits: “At the moment we are fighting for fifth place with Toro Rosso, Haas and Renault. Williams is too fast for us but we are catching up. The season is long."
