F1 | FIA, expanded the DRS area to facilitate overtaking

The International Automobile Federation has chosen to expand the first DRS zone that drivers will be able to use in the next Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2017 Formula One World Championship. Given the absence of overtaking in the Sochi race and the complexity of the Catalan circuit in aerodynamic terms, the FIA decided to lengthen the area of use of the mobile wing located on the main straight, moving the activation point of the device backwards. The drivers will have 100 meters more at their disposal to exploit the effects of the wing and try to overtake in the braking section of Turn 1. A choice dictated above all by the few maneuvers seen in Russia (no overtaking in the entire race) and by the fact that Historically, the Montemlò circuit does not make overtaking "easy".

The change has already been activated during this morning's free practice and will also be confirmed in qualifying.
