F1 | Ferrari, Vettel on the Monza weekend: "We hope to be competitive, the public will give us a boost"

On the weekend: “We hope to be as competitive as in Spa. It seems like we have an advantage in qualifying, but we need to manage the tires and find the right set-up".

On his relationship with Charles Leclerc: “We know him well at Ferrari, this isn't a surprise for us. We collaborate and it is important not to waste precious energy. Spa was important to him, even if Hubert's passing proved it. At the moment the car is not at the level we would like, but one day we will have the car that will allow us to fight to win everywhere."

Discussing the fatal accident in Formula 2, which cost the life of Anthoine Hubert, and the safety aspect: “What happened will be examined in detail, but no conclusions should be drawn at this time. Inserting more gravel? There are also other issues to evaluate. I am a fan of Spa, but after what happened we must first try to understand and then give evaluations. The last few years have been a wake-up call after what happened with Bianchi, there are things that need to be improved. I would prefer boring championships if they served to bring back riders who are no longer there".

On the opinion relating to the first part of the season, defined as insufficient before the summer break: "We didn't do what we wanted, we need to be realistic. Mercedes is in a position to win every race".

On the future: “We want close battles, the appearance of the cars is secondary. My contract ends next year and everything will depend on what happens (new regulations, ed.)”.
