F1 | Ferrari, Vettel: “Pole on this track means a lot”

Montreal – Every meter counts on this 4.361 km circuit, where half a tenth of a second can make the difference. Sebastian Vettel he made the most of this day, taking the team's 217th pole, his fourth of the season. Kimi Raikkonen he obtained fifth place, due to a small error in the last run, which prevented him from achieving a better result. However, the substantial progress that the SF71H has shown since the first day of free practice demonstrates that there is great potential available in tomorrow's race.

“Pole position is always important” Seb said “and for Scuderia Ferrari this track and this country mean a lot, since this is the homeland of Gilles Villeneuve. That's why I'm very happy to have achieved the best time today. It's a great result for the whole team, but I think I could have done even better. I was already satisfied with my first run in Q3, but I knew that for the first part of the lap I could get more out of my car. So I tried, but until the end I wasn't sure if it was enough. We have certainly made improvements since yesterday, I was happy with the behavior of my car. Choosing to start with the Ultrasoft was a fairly obvious decision for us. Now we have to do our best for tomorrow.”

Teammate Kimi Raikkonen is obviously less happy: “On my last attempt in Q3 I had sudden understeer going into Turn 2 and struggled to get the car to turn. At that point I had no choice but to try to get out of it as quickly as possible, but obviously I was now off the line and my lap ended there. What happened is strange; My car had performed well all day. I'm sure I could have done better. The end result is not what we expected. Tomorrow is another day and we'll see how it goes. It will certainly be difficult, with different tires on different cars in the front rows. It's hard to imagine how it will end, but we believe we made the right choice for the start of the race."
