F1 | Ferrari, Vettel: “Since the Singapore GP we have no longer been able to keep up with Mercedes”

In the last race, which took place on Sunday on the Mexico City track, Sebastian Vettel he was the protagonist of a solid performance that saw him come second behind Max Verstappen's winning Red Bull.

In fact, German, during the Mexican Grand Prix, he made excellent overtaking moves against Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton, thus rediscovering the certainties he had lost in previous events where various contacts had forced him into comeback races.

On the progress of the season and the various errors committed which, combined with those of the team, jeopardized the championship bid, Vettel focused attention on what - for him - proved to be the disastrous moment for the purposes of the World Championship: "More than Hockenheim and Monza, I think it could be Singapore. From that race onwards we didn't have the pace to fight with Mercedes, clearly other things happened which didn't help us. We couldn't score points because of the mistakes we made and that I made. I can't be too hard on myself for what happened in Germany. I've made bigger mistakes, but obviously that was the most costly".

Continuing with his discussion of the mistake at Hockenheim, which cost him a virtually certain victory, the Cavallino standard-bearer added: “Unfortunately this is part of racing, sometimes when you push you might push too hard. In that particular circumstance I chose the wrong curve. But it's a thing of the past now, I don't think about it too much, it can happen to others too".

"It has certainly been a difficult year, different from the previous ones, but we must not forget that we have a very strong package and we were able to win races even if we are no longer fighting for the drivers' championship but are for the constructors' championship. Despite the various difficulties I believe it was a good year for our team.  We are still improving, but we certainly need further steps to be able to take that last step that we are missing”, concluded Vettel.
