F1 | Ferrari, Vettel analyzes the Baku circuit: "Finding the right balance will be a challenge"
The German is ready for redemption after the third place achieved in Shanghai
A few hours before leaving for Baku, theater of the next Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel spoke of the difficulties that await teams and drivers on the shores of the Black Sea, highlighting how the city located in the metropolis will be an important testing ground for the SF90 . The speed due to the long straights, in fact, clashes with the tortuosity of the central sector (the castle part is just seven meters wide. Ed.), which is why it will be important to find the right aerodynamic balance between the various configurations.
An important challenge where every small detail, including reliability, could play a key role in the duel between the Maranello team, eager for revenge after the Chinese defeat, and the Silver Arrows of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
“This circuit has a 2,2 kilometer long section to be covered in full in which we reach 360 km/h before the very demanding braking of the first left corner”, declared the German in the media presentation of the event. “The steep climb around the old city walls is only seven meters wide, which in a Formula 1 car seems even less.”
“It feels like you have to thread a needle!”, added the German, author of the pole position last year. “There's not enough space for two cars at that point so if you're dueling with another driver it's best to agree on who gets through first.”
Conclusion on the challenges awaiting drivers and teams in Baku: “One of the challenges of Baku is finding the right balance in terms of downforce. You need to be able to take slow corners well but you also need to be very fast on the straights. It's a compromise that's not easy to find."
