F1 | Ferrari, Vasseur: “When I arrived the team was too conservative”
"The team must be used to going to the limit", thought the Frenchman
Frederic Vasseur, among the various topics touched on in the long interview recently given to The Athletic, also discussed one of the tools given to the team which consists of a new culture: that of risk, a particular one according to Vasseur also used by Red Bull.
In fact, the French manager, who arrived in Maranello starting from the 2023 season where he took the place of Mattia Binotto who returned to Formula 1 at the head of the Audi project after a break, admitted how daring is important, clearly taking responsibility of what this thought system introduced into the team entails.
“I had the feeling that the team was being a bit conservative in some ways,” Vasseur said. “When you're four tenths or five tenths behind Red Bull, it's not like Red Bull has the magic wand of five tenths. It's just that on 10 subjects, I'm maybe half a tenth faster than you."
The Cavallino team principal, continuing with his speech, added: “If you push the limits a little further and say: 'Let's take a little more risk', or you are a little more aggressive, put the team in the mindset of doing so. It means you have to be used to going to the limit."
