F1 | Ferrari, Vasseur: protect the mechanics from the calendar full of races

There are just under two months left untilstart of the new season which will take place in Bahrain between the end of February and the beginning of March. This year too, the Formula 1 calendar will represent a very prohibitive challenge for the teams who will have to face 24 events, with the Circus closing its doors only on 8 December with the usual final event at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi .

Frederic Vasseur, discussing the calendar full of races, underlined how important it is to protect the mechanics in particular from the stress deriving from being practically always traveling around the world. The Frenchman, head of the Sports Management of Ferrari since last year, he believes that we must also work on this situation to manage in the best way the team called upon to make a significant physical and mental effort.

“We have to have the best approach for the mechanics, because it's part of the performance, it's part of the reliability – declared Vasseur, as reported by RacingNews365 – The errors in the pit stops in Abu Dhabi and in some other races are not strange. I think they were all exhausted. It means we need to think about maybe having a rotation of mechanics, or keeping some of them at various races and having another group of mechanics at home to look after the cars when they go back to the factory. I think we have room to do something, we have room to manage everything better."

Vasseur then added: “We have to keep in mind that a couple of years ago we were struggling to find tracks and events. Today we have many proposals, we have a situation where there are 24 races and also probably to be a little too selective about the appointments. We certainly have to work on the calendar."

The Ferrari team principal, completing his thoughts, said: “Next year we will have the first part of the season in the Far East with Melbourne, Japan and China in succession. We will allow some mechanics and drivers to stay in this part of the world a few more times, it will be useful. Then we have to manage the team well, let them rest a bit, but I don't think we need to reduce the number of events."
