Formula 1 | Cardile explains the SF21: “We chose to focus on the rear”

“The front of the car has received less radical interventions due to the regulations,” said the Chassis Director

The SF21 will make its track debut tomorrow

Through the columns of the official website of Ferrari, Henry Cardile explained the line of development carried out by Cavallino on SF21, car with which Carlos Sainz e Charles Leclerc they will face the next 2021 Formula 1 World Championship, highlighting how the technicians' attention has focused on the rear.

According to what was declared by the Chassis Director, the Scuderia chose to "spend" the two development funds on the rear suspension and the gearbox, effectively overturning the entire rear end of the SF1000. A choice which on paper should help the drivers to improve the feeling with the rear axle, a real sore point of the technical package used during the past season.

“When we faced the project of SF21 we immediately found ourselves choosing which area of the car to focus our attention on for a radical change", said Henry Cardile. “We chose the rear part, creating a new gearbox and new suspensions. This, in addition to the work carried out together with our colleagues in the power unit, made it possible to obtain a much more tapered rear end."

“The cooling system was also the subject of our attention,” he continued. “We increased the authority of the central radiator and designed a more downwashing bodywork. Aerodynamics was one of the areas impacted by the regulatory changes aimed at reducing the ability to develop vertical load, to safeguard the integrity of the tyres. For this reason, when we began the aerodynamic development of the car we set ourselves two objectives: to increase the load lost with the regulations and to reduce drag."

“The front part of the car received less radical interventions due to the regulations. So we developed a new front wing, which works in conjunction with a new concept nose, but the chassis and suspension are those of the SF1000″, he concluded.
