F1 | Ferrari, Sainz on the Silverstone race: "I had the pace for the podium"

Ferrari was one of the positive surprises of the Silverstone race that took place on Sunday. The Cavallino team managed to secure a podium finish with Charles Leclerc, who came close to victory where he had to settle for second place behind Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, and sixth place with Carlos Sainz.

The Spaniard, in all honesty, admitted that the pace shown in the GP could have brought him into the Top 3. Unfortunately, the slow pit stop which compromised the final result weighs heavily on the former McLaren standard bearer. Sainz also gave an excellent opinion on the stability of the car, the best driven so far this season.

"Unfortunately we had that slow pit stop which cost us a position against Daniel (Ricciardo, ed.) – said Sainz, quoted by RaceFans – The pit stops throughout the year have been fantastic. I think it was one of the most balanced cars I've had all year. Leclerc's pace shows that the car in clear air was not there to win, because in the end the Mercedes is clearly a little faster, but very close to the podium and really fantastic to drive".

Sainz then, continuing to discuss the SF21, said: “He had the pace for the podium. At one point I was setting the fastest laps on old 25 lap averages. So it shows that the tyre, ride and balance of the car are improving. We're really trying to further improve all areas. But on this circuit, which we thought wasn't going to be very good for us, we delivered and the car was very nice to drive".
