F1 | Ferrari, Sainz on 2022: “Influenced by the regulatory change”

There are fewer and fewer races left, six to be precise, until the end of the professional relationship between Carlos Sainz and Ferrari. The Spaniard, to whom the Prancing Horse team communicated this winter that they would not renew his contract to make room for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, will start again in 2025 at Williams where he will form a line up technical and expert with Alexander Albon.

In Ferrari, Sainz, who arrived in 2021 and was chosen by the then team principal Mattia Binotto to replace Sebastian Vettel, took some important satisfactions such as taking the first victory of his career (if two others followed, at least for the moment) obtained at Silverstone two years ago. 2022 was a complicated year for the 55, coinciding with the introduction of the ground effect regulation. The Spaniard himself explained the difficulties in adapting to that car, the F1-75, not suited to his driving style.

“The start of 2022 makes me angry, the change in the rules has affected me a lot as a driver,” Sainz said, interviewed by AS. “They were very different cars from the ones we had until 2021, which we had driven for many years.”

The Spaniard, continuing with his analysis, added: “Ferrari had a great start to the season with a fast car, but very difficult to drive and very strange. You had to have a strange way of driving it that didn’t suit my style and I lost opportunities to win because I wasn’t 100% with the car.”
