F1 | Ferrari, Sainz: "At the start I had to nail down to avoid hitting Bottas"

Carlos Sainz's sixth place concludes an overall positive day for Ferrari in Mexico City. With the race ending behind his teammate, the Spanish driver had the opportunity to catch Gasly having a better pace than Leclerc, with the Monegasque giving way to him, but the gap with the Frenchman from AlphaTauri was too wide, and in the end new switch and 17 points in the bag against the only one won by McLaren thanks to Norris.

“It was one of my best races this season regarding pace, since I was always fast – Sainz said at the end of the day. Even today I found myself at ease with both the medium and hard tyres. Starting from the dirty side of the track was, as expected, difficult and I was also a bit unlucky with the accident that happened in front of me: first I had to nail down to avoid hitting Bottas and then I lost a few positions to avoid Ricciardo who was losing his front wing. At the restart I immediately managed to regain sixth place from Giovinazzi and thus managed to take advantage of my solid race pace. The team made excellent pit stops on both cars and in the final part I had a better pace than Charles, so I think it was right to swap positions without taking any risks. If we had fought among ourselves, trying to catch Gasly would have been even more difficult. At the end we then reversed the order of the cars again as we had agreed to do before the start. Today we brought home a good number of points compared to our rivals, thus overtaking them in the standings. This result and my solid pace throughout the weekend are the positive aspects of the weekend in Mexico. Down with Brazil now!”.
