F1 | Ferrari, Sainz: “Third place in the constructors' championship would be an excellent result”

Not just Red Bull-Mercedes and Max Verstappen-Lewis Hamilton. Also taking center stage in the last two races of the season is the battle between Ferrari and McLaren for third place in the Constructors' World Championship. A challenge that currently sees Maranello in a strong position against Woking, being able to count on a 39,5 point advantage.

Discussing the progress of the championship which is coming to an end, Carlos Sainz admitted how the lowest step of the world podium is honestly the maximum result that Ferrari can aspire to given the starting point (sixth place in the 2020 constructors' championship, ed. ) and developments are practically at a standstill with most of the teams – including Ferrari – having been working on the 2022 project for some time.

"Obviously the championship is not over yet, there are two races to go and in the last two we are concentrating on trying to improve – said Sainz, quoted by Autosport – But if I look at where we were last year, sixth, with just a few championship points, I think we did the best we could do with the current regulations, and the fact that most of the car also had very limited development opportunities was a good thing. Overall, I think the team made great progress with what was possible. This is why I am so happy because third position is an excellent result".
