F1 | Ferrari, Sainz and the McLaren model: “I know how strong it is. It's a great reference for us"

McLaren is without a shadow of a doubt the team that has taken the most important evolutionary step in recent years. In fact, Woking, after having renewed its technical and managerial structure, has returned to obtaining important results as demonstrated by the third place obtained last year in the constructors' championship and the fight with Ferrari to obtain the lowest step of the world championship podium again in 2021.

Speaking about the English team, in which he played for the last two years before moving to Maranello, Carlos Sainz admitted how they are equipped to aim for victories and titles in the near future. For this reason, Ferrari, as admitted by the Spaniard himself, must take McLaren as a reference.

"I think I've said it a couple of times already, McLaren as a team is ready to win championships. They just need a machine that can do it – said Sainz, quoted by GP Fans – As was demonstrated in Monza, they had a car capable of doing a one-two and instead of getting nervous or collapsing they went fast. What they did was take a one-two and with the fastest lap at the first opportunity they had".

Sainz then added: “I know how strong that team is. For this reason it is a great reference for us at Ferrari to fight against them for third-fourth place in the championship, because I feel that that team is ready to win races if the guys are given a good car. It's an interesting challenge for us as a team. We can learn for next year, hopefully we have a chance".
