F1 | Ferrari, Sainz: “Another victory could come by the end of the year”

Carlos Sainz believes that Ferrari can aim to return to the top step of the podium by the end of the season. The Spaniard in fact underlined how the Reds could have a chance of being competitive for victory on some tracks, compared to others where on paper the SF-24 might not have the pace to keep up with McLaren and Red Bull.

The very next track, Austin, where the Circus will return to action on the weekend of October 20 after a month's break, will be an important test for the Prancing Horse team called upon to show performances of a certain type on a technical and permanent track. Maranello has come from excellent races, where it achieved victory in Monza and the podium in Baku with Charles Leclerc while in Singapore it was conditioned by a mediocre Saturday that inevitably affected the results in the race.

The last six races (and 3 Sprint Races) of the season also represent the final ones of Carlos Sainz's experience in Ferrari. The driver from Madrid, who in red will make way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton as Leclerc's future teammate, will be a new driver for Williams next year where he will pair up with Alexander Albon.

“A win could come between now and the end of the year,” Sainz told AS. “The most important circuits on the calendar are Singapore (in Marina Bay Ferrari’s performance was limited by mistakes made in qualifying, ed.) and Las Vegas, where we have the chance to fight for the win. It doesn’t mean we will win, but it means we will be closer than in Austin, Brazil or Abu Dhabi.”

Sainz, completing his analysis, added: “It doesn’t even mean that we will win the World Championship. The strongest car is McLaren, which without some mistakes would already be running away in the championship. We have a chance to beat them and Red Bull, because even if we don’t have the fastest car, we do everything else well.”
