F1 | Ferrari, Mekies: “In the winter tests we understood that it would be a difficult season”

Today marks the end of 2020 which, sportingly speaking, proved to be disastrous for Ferrari. The SF1000, the last single-seater born in Maranello, proved to be very far from the competition, forcing Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel to settle only for points finishes. With the exception of the three podiums that the two standard bearers of the little horse managed to achieve in this unfortunate season.

Despite the difficulties encountered along the way, the Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies believes that the single-seater has improved during the season and that the year faced is a warning for 2021. Furthermore, the Ferrari sporting director underlined that already in the winter, during during the winter tests, the team had found some problems with the SF1000.

"There were many very significant small achievements during the year, which were not observed because we were behind – declared Mekies – Let's hope it pays off stronger next year. In Barcelona we immediately realized the concerns related to some aspects of the car. We knew it would be difficult. We didn't know then how long it would take to resolve them. Then during the Covid phase we weren't able to touch the car for a few months".
