Ferrari has not finished two consecutive races with both drivers in the points since Japan and Mexico 2019

F1 | Ferrari, Mattia Binotto: “Sorry about the podium, but the direction is the right one”

Scuderia Ferrari has to settle for fourth and fifth place in Imola, but the fans can perhaps start to rejoice. The team itself, according to team principal Mattia Binotto, is sorry to have lost a podium that belonged to Ferrari for most of the race thanks to the performance of Charles Leclerc, who already overtook Sergio Perez at the start and started chasing the aliens Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Unfortunately the red flag cancels the twenty-five second advantage that the Monegasque had built over Norris. Good performance also from Carlos Sainz, initially perhaps too impetuous on the wet curves of the circuit named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari, but after a few mistakes the Spaniard recovers, climbing the rankings from eleventh to fifth place. A total of twenty-two points have been achieved in terms of the championship and which, at this point, put the red team in direct competition with McLaren.

"A result that confirms, on a track and in totally different conditions compared to the first race of the season, that the work we are doing is going in the right direction - Binotto confirmed – the fact that we are disappointed at not having placed at least one rider on the podium proves it further.

“Ultimately, I think we can rightly say that the balance of these first two races is positive – continues the team principal – not since the second part of 2019, precisely since the races in Japan and Mexico, have we had both drivers in the points in two consecutive Grands Prix. We must continue on this path and demonstrate race by race that we know how to improve. I can't wait to go to Portimão to race the next Grand Prix!”.
