F1 | Ferrari, the protest against Racing Point aiming for 2021 chassis tokens
Ferrari seeks clarity on the 'token' issue ahead of next year
With the step backwards made in recent hours by Renault, Ferrari remained the only team to keep the protest against Racing Point going. According to what was reported by the British website The Race, Maranello's appeal also has a technical and political nature.
In fact, next year the regulation will be almost unchanged, awaiting the major changes expected for 2022, with the teams having certain development tokens available to exploit. In this regard, Ferrari wants to avoid that some customer teams, as for example happened this year with the RP20 on which the brake ducts are clearly of Mercedes origin, from being able to re-propose components previously seen on other single-seaters without exploiting any token'.
This is why the Red team continues to carry on this battle, in the hope of stemming a new Racing Point case. However, if Ferrari were to find fertile ground for the issue relating to development tokens, a new scenario would open up as reported by The Race: "It is not inconceivable that a token agreement could be reached that satisfies Ferrari enough to drop the brake duct appeal".
