F1 | Ferrari, Kimi&Seb: “The best car so far this weekend”
Optimistic drivers ahead of tomorrow's race
Uncertain weather made qualifying for the British Grand Prix even more difficult, but Scuderia Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel emerged from the battle with the second and third fastest times respectively.
Kimi's feeling with his SF70H continued to improve over the weekend and all the development work carried out by the team paid off on Saturday afternoon: “In qualifying the car performed better than it has done so far this weekend and I was very satisfied. Obviously we always want to be the best, but today we have more or less achieved what was within our reach. In Q1 with the Intermediates on a damp track, the conditions were not the best. It was very slippery, but not wet everywhere, and the tires wore out quickly. Luckily we chose the right time for the last attempt and it went well. The track continued to improve thereafter. My last ride went well, but it was still a little difficult to know where to go because there were traces of damp here and there; so I went slow at first and then decided to push harder. Today I had a good feeling with the car, so I'm just waiting for tomorrow and I hope to do even better in the race. We're usually a little stronger on Sunday."
Seb classified behind his teammate and was happy with the behavior of his Ferrari: “We are quite happy with the result and our performance was good. I think tomorrow won't be easy, considering that Mercedes was fast during the whole weekend. But our car was going well today and the feeling was excellent. So overall, I'm happy. The track wasn't completely wet and driving was fun. In my last run I found a few cars in front of me, but apart from that I think we improved a lot over the weekend, even in qualifying, and this is what really counts."
