F1 | Ferrari, Charles Leclerc: “I am extremely disappointed in myself”

Charles Leclerc, who came within a whisker of the podium, is certainly disappointed and angry. The Monegasque started from twelfth position, from the wettest side of the track. His start wasn't as brilliant as that of his teammate, on the contrary: Charles lost two positions, but took a gamble by mounting intermediate tires already on the seventh lap. The strategy is right, Charles collects fast laps and climbs the rankings, returning to the top ten within a few laps. In the second part of the race Leclerc catches up with his teammate and, having more pace, overtakes him to take fourth position. Max Verstappen's error brings the two Ferrari drivers even closer to the podium and it is precisely a few meters from the finish line that Leclerc takes advantage of an error by Perez to attempt an assault on second position, but without success, on the contrary: Vettel is the one to come out on top and overtake your teammate. Leclerc thus finds himself one step away from the podium, and his frustration is certainly understandable by the team radio after the race.

"I am extremely disappointed in myself – admitted the Monegasque – I made a mistake at the last corner, there's little to say, given that in the end it's the result that counts and today I threw away an opportunity. My start was bad, on the dirty side of the track, but then things got better and in the middle part of the race we were extremely fast and I did a good job catching the leading group who were several seconds ahead. But in the end I threw everything in the bin.

"I feel sorry for the team, because today we could have achieved a second place. On the other hand, I'm happy for Seb because he's had a difficult season so far and he completely deserves this first podium".
