F1 | Ferrari, Binotto: “Being able to celebrate our 1000 GP at Mugello is an incredible opportunity”

For the first time in its history, the Mugello Autodrome will host a race valid for the Formula 1 world championship. In a season calendar revolutionized following the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, the opportunity has been created to bring the maximum car competition in a cutting-edge racetrack in terms of safety and sustainability standards and on a track that is as fascinating as it is challenging for drivers and cars.

The official name of the event is a tribute to the land that will host this event and to the historic anniversary that Scuderia Ferrari - the only team present in all 70 editions of the top automotive competition held so far - will celebrate that day. The Mugello racetrack is located just 35 kilometers from Florence, one of the cities richest in history and artistic masterpieces, appreciated by millions of visitors from all over the world.

With the assignment of the ninth round of the season at Mugello, Italy returns to host two Formula 1™ Grands Prix for the first time since 2006. That year the calendar included both the traditional Italian Grand Prix in Monza, both the last edition of the San Marino Grand Prix held so far, which was held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola: both races were won by Michael Schumacher, in his last season as a Scuderia Ferrari driver.

Mattia Binotto Managing Director and Team Principal Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow

“Being able to celebrate an extraordinary anniversary like that of the thousand Scuderia Ferrari Grands Prix right at our home in Mugello is an incredible opportunity. The Mugello circuit is not only one of the most fascinating and challenging tracks for drivers and single-seaters but it is also a facility that has made sustainability one of its priorities, a commitment that has led it to reach levels of excellence in Italy and in the world.

Various protagonists contributed to making this possibility a reality, to whom we are grateful. First of all, Chase Carey, Chairman and CEO of Formula 1, who knows and appreciates the value that our team represents for this sport, so much so that he recognized the anniversary in the official name of the event.

Then there are two fundamental partners for achieving this goal. First of all the territory that will host us, the Tuscany Region - one of the most beautiful in our country, rich in artistic treasures and breathtaking landscapes, and then the city of Florence, a unique jewel in the world for its architectural beauties and the masterpieces that are found there they can admire.

For me personally, Mugello is linked to the memories of many days of testing spent together with the team to try to improve the single-seater, sometimes dreaming of challenging our opponents right there: to think that today we are about to experience an event like a Grand Prix on that track. The award - moreover the thousandth of our history in Formula 1 - is a wonderful emotion and I can't wait for what was then a dream to come true on September 13th."
