F1 | Ferrari, Binotto on improvements in stops: "Being under three seconds is important, it shows consistency"

Ferrari's 2021 marked an improvement not only in performance on the track, where the SF21 managed to get back on top by beating McLaren and taking third place in the Constructors' World Championship, but also in terms of pit stops.

The Maranello team, which had suffered quite a bit from this aspect in recent years, recorded an improvement of two tenths in the last championship, going from 2,72 to 2,55 with 73% of stops under 3 seconds. A figure which according to Mattia Binotto underlines the progress made by the Cavallino, in a year of recovery by Ferrari.

"For me, being under three seconds is an important fact, as it shows consistency – declared Binotto, quoted by Formula1.com – The most important thing is not to always be the fastest but to make sure you do it constantly, when the car is arriving you know that within three seconds you have to complete the stop and that it doesn't become five, as you could have a problem with the strategy and lose positions that you don't you expected. Once again, these numbers show encouraging progress. We're not the best yet, but I think definitely as a team and trying to improve in all areas shows the progress we've made".
