F1 | Ferrari, Binotto: “No significant development on the SF21, all efforts on 2022”

Ferrari is practically one step away from taking third place in the Constructors' World Championship, being able to count on an advantage of 39 points over McLaren with two races left in the season. In 5 the SF2021 has significantly improved compared to the derelict SF21, as can be seen from the performance and results achieved on the track.

In this regard, Mattia Binotto admitted that the team has practically not allocated any important developments with a view to 2021, but has diverted all efforts to next year where there will be the introduction of the new regulation which will bring completely different cars compared to the current ones. An opportunity that Cavallino wants to make the most of to return to being competitive at high levels.

"We have never significantly developed the current car – declared Binotto, quoted by Autosport – We introduced a couple of developments at the beginning of the season and that was it. Except for the power unit later, once again this was a development with a view to 2022, so all our efforts since the start of the season have always been on the 2022 car. We never thought about penalizing 2022 to the advantage of 2021".

Binotto then, discussing the objectives set for the current season, said: “We knew that we could fight for third place at the start of this season, we knew that it could be very close but we knew that our main goal in 2021 was not third place, but to try to improve in all details as a team and the third place was simply an achievement. I think that if today we are reaching third place it is because the team, the way in which we are working on the various weekends has certainly improved a lot since the beginning of the season and not because the car itself has developed".

The Maranello TP also made a comparison with the technical-sporting situation seen in 2020: "If I look at where we were last year, sixth, with few championship points, I think we made the most of our possibilities with the current regulations and the majority of the car also had very limited development opportunities. Overall I think the team has made great progress with what was possible, and for this I am so happy because yes, third position is a great result of efforts".
