F1 | Ferrari, Binotto: “Gap reduced but not closed. The World Cup will come, but I don't know when"

What begins this weekend in Bahrain must be the season of redemption for Ferrari. In fact, the Rossa is called upon to improve on that sixth place in the Constructors' World Championship, a true sporting disgrace for an iconic, historic and winning team like that of the Cavallino. Among the innovations that characterize the SF21 there is also the new engine which will have nothing to do with the detuned one mounted last year on the SF1000.

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mattia binotto made an analysis not only of what we should expect from the Red team but also of the future objectives, among which is that of bringing that title back to Maranello which has been missing for over a decade now.

"I believe the gap has narrowed, but not completely closed – declared Binotto, discussing the engine – In 2022 we aim to improve further, aware that the others will not remain idle and that next year's PU will remain in use until the end of 2024. It should be kept in mind that next year it will be mandatory to use a new petrol with 10% ethanol, a factor that could have a significant impact on performance".

The Ferrari TP then discussed the new line-up, the youngest in the history of the Cavallino since 1969. For Binotto, the Leclerc-Sainz duo will work better, as they both know that Ferrari's rebirth comes through their synergy.

"I believe that the harmony that is characterizing these first weeks of the relationship between Charles and Carlos is truly genuine - He admitted - Both know well that we need to work together to bring Ferrari back to the top and that the interests of the team come before those of the individual".

Present yes, but with an eye towards that future where Ferrari hopes to return to being a protagonist in terms of the title. Binotto expressed positivity on the subject: “The World Cup will come because we will be able to become the best team of all, thanks to the work of each of us and the support that the company and our partners give us. I don't know when, but I'm sure it will come".
