F1 | Ferrari, Binotto and compliments to Sainz: "We knew he was a fast and consistent driver"

Carlos Sainz had a positive first part of the season at Ferrari, where the Spaniard highlighted all those characteristics that pushed the Maranello team to focus on him alongside Charles Leclerc. Mattia Binotto, speaking about his new standard bearer who has taken up the legacy of Sebastian Vettel, underlined the strengths but at the same time hopes that he can fill those gaps which on various occasions have punctuated some critical issues.

"I'm not surprised because when we decided to prepare to make him an offer, we did a lot of analysis and we knew he was a strong driver. We knew he was a strong rider. We knew that he was very consistent in the race and he was also fast – declared Binotto, quoted by RacingNews365 – We're not surprised at how strong or fast he is, I'm happy there's no doubt about it. I'm happy to see that he is doing well because this shows that we made the right choice. I'm happy to see the way he is integrating with the team, with Charles".

Binotto then, continuing the analysis on Sainz, added: “What I expect from him in the second part I think he has already said himself, he hasn't been able to put together a whole weekend yet. There is a mistake here and there, in qualifying at the start or in the race. So I expect he will continue learning it. And soon, hopefully, he'll put together a whole weekend that's important to him".
