F1 | Ferrari, Binotto: "With the 2022 engine we want to become a point of reference"
“We are working in the right direction, it will make us stronger in the future,” said the Maranello TP
Ferrari passed the first race of the new season positively, where on the Sakhir track it brought both cars into the points. The SF21 seems to have improved in all areas compared to the "lame" SF1000, even if the gap compared to the competition is still marked. The Cavallino team will play its most important chances next year, in which the new regulation will lead everyone - at least on paper - to start from scratch.
A tempting opportunity not to be missed in which Ferrari, as TP Mattia Binotto underlined, wants to become a point of reference for the rest of the grid.
"The powertrain has definitely improved and I'm also happy to see that Alfa Romeo and Haas have made progress – said Binotto, quoted by Mundo Deportivo – I think we have made progress on our part in all possible areas. The aerodynamics are certainly better in terms of behavior and correlation, but the powertrain, the car in general. Whenever improvements were possible, we tried to make them happen. I think we still lack the engine, certainly less than before, so the gap has narrowed and I think we are getting closer".
The Rossa TP, completing his technical analysis, added: “I hope that by next year, when we have a new engine, we can close the gap or become a point of reference for others. I think even in terms of aerodynamics it's a complete package. Now the differences are narrowing. The most important thing is I believe that we are working in the right direction with the right tools and that will make us stronger in the future".
