F1 | Estrosi (France GP promoter) pushes for remaining on the calendar: "I'm not resigned to it"

The French Grand Prix wants to continue to be an integral part of the Formula 1 world championship calendar. The event so far held at Paul Ricard, which returned to the Circus starting from 2018 and which had to skip the 2020 edition due to the pandemic, has the contract with the top class expiring at the end of the current season.

Despite the rumors speaking of an exit from the scene, given the future entries of Las Vegas and Kyalami, the promoter of the French GP Christian Estrosi is not giving up and will do everything to ensure that the French event continues.

"It is the end of a contract in which France had to demonstrate its know-how in the organization – Estrosi told BFM Var – Two hundred thousand people filled the circuit between Friday and Sunday, an absolute record. We're in the middle of a discussion. No, I haven't resigned myself. I saw our country regain its French GP, this magnificent and popular sporting event. I am convinced that in the coming weeks we will have extremely positive things to announce for the future of our GP".

Estrosi also claimed to be in contact not only with current Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, but also with the president of France Emmanuel Macron.

"It would be good if the head of state said through his government that France wants Formula 1, wants to maintain one of the most popular sporting categories in our country. The president confirmed it to me, now we will see what will be done. For five years it was the only community to carry it on its shoulders".
