The German magazine Auto Bild reveals the economic resources available to the ten teams registered for the 2018 World Championship
That formula 1 It is already widely known that it is an expensive sport: the heights reached in recent years, however, are unprecedented in history. The words released some time ago by John Cooper, founder of the Cooper Grand Prix, are the certification: “In the 60s, our budget was less than $100.000 and that was enough to win the world title”. Already in the '80s, with the introduction of turbo engines and the entry of new manufacturers, the bar began to rise: it is necessary to underline, however, that if in 1983 theAlfa Romeo used to invest five million dollars to set up an official team, today it spends triple that to act as title sponsor for the Clean.
The German magazine Car picture, a few days before the start of the championship, has drawn up a ranking in which it reveals the available budget of each of the ten teams entered in the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship: Mercedes and Ferrari, as expected, lead the ranking, ahead of Red Bull and McLaren. The gap compared to the lower ranking teams is enormous: precisely on the basis of this last data, Liberty Media is pushing for the introduction of the budget cap, so as to reduce expenses and standardize the level of the single-seaters.
Here is the ranking with the approximate budget of the teams, expressed in Euros:
