In a chat given to the columns of Sport1, Bernie Ecclestone returned to talk about the difficult moment that Sebastian Vettel is experiencing in Aston Martin, underlining how the German needs to drive a competitive car to really show his value.

According to "Mr E", a solution that suits him for the near future could be a sensational return to Red Bull, especially if the English brand does not meet expectations in 2022. As regards retirement, however, Ecclestone preferred not go unbalanced, specifying how any decision will be taken solely by the former Ferrari driver, without external influences or evaluations.

“At the moment it is not easy to understand Sebastian Vettel's real speed, given that he hasn't driven a truly competitive car for some time,” said the British Manager, historically a friend of the four-time German World Champion. “It's not easy to say whether it's back in its heyday or whether it has lost some of its luster.”

“I actually think he needs to go back to Red Bull. As far as retirement is concerned, however, he will be the one to make the decision on the matter. I believe he will not be influenced by evaluations or external factors. It will be his decision alone,” he concluded.
