F1 | Ecclestone shocks Liberty Media: “Ferrari's threat is real”

In an interview given to the newspaper "The Independent", Bernie Ecclestone commented on the latest rumors regarding Ferrari, underlining how Liberty Media should not underestimate the bomb dropped by Sergio Marchionne a few days ago (we will not participate in a global NASCAR.ed).

According to what was declared by the English manager, in fact, Ferrari will only play the game under certain conditions and if Chase Carey decides to listen to the final financial requests. A complex situation which, considering the premises of these days, could prove quite interesting.

It should be noted that the Briton also touched on the budget cap issue, underlining a concept expressed several times during his mandate as President of the FOM, namely that those who have no money may not even run in the Circus. Racing has always been a fairly expensive sport from an economic point of view and an expense cap would kill the spirit of competitiveness among the top teams.

“The threat from Ferrari is certainly real”, said Bernie Ecclestone. “They will only remain in play under certain economic conditions and at the moment the issue is more complex than expected. This is how it works with them: you have to comply with certain conditions, working on the regulations. If they can't win like this, it's down to the money. The peculiar thing is that at the moment these conditions do not exist. They will be important weeks."

On the budget cap he also added: “It's stupid. Formula One has costs and as far as I'm concerned I've always said that anyone who doesn't have money shouldn't undertake a project of this type. The top teams want to spend as much as necessary. We won't be going anywhere as always."
