F1 | Ecclestone: “I don't think Vettel can have a great year at Ferrari”

Sebastian Vettel's future is increasingly under question. The German seems to have no chance of racing in 2021, and the Mercedes option, the only really interesting one for Seb, could vanish with the rise in the last few weeks of George Russell, in pole position to take Valtteri Bottas' place. Taking for granted (?) the renewal of Lewis Hamilton, formally not yet arrived, there seems to be no place for Vettel in 2021. Bernie Ecclestone, former owner of Formula 1, believes that the German champion should take a year off and then concentrate on returning in 2022.

“Toto Wolff has the power there – Bernie said – so why should he focus on Vettel when he already has Superstar Lewis Hamilton? He also has two other drivers like Bottas and Russell who he has sponsored for years. As for Seb, I don't think he will have a great year in Ferrari, because I don't see the car as one of the strongest, but even if it were at the level of Mercedes and Red Bull, why would they let Vettel beat the guy who will be on the team for years and years before leaving? It would not make sense. Sebastian should take a year off and focus on a return in 2022."
