F1 | Ecclestone against the decision to remove the grid girls

The former owner of the formula 1, doesn't fit with the decision of Liberty Medium of no longer having umbrellas on the starting grid, and it's a river in flood.

“They were part of the show - comments Bernie Ecclestone- the drivers like them, the public likes them and no one cares. I can't understand how a beautiful girl next to a pilot could be offensive to anyone. They have all become moralists."

A grid girl, Charlotte Gash, interviewed by BBC Radio she declared she was disgusted by the measure and added:

“Formula 1 has given in to the minority to be politically correct. I am one of the lucky ones who didn't have this as their only income but for other girls it was the only source of income. Some are there to appear on the grid but my role was different, interacting with the crowd, advertising and sponsors. We love doing this and we don't want it to be taken away from us.".

On the contrary, the circuit manager of Silverstone, totally agrees with Liberty Media:

“We wholeheartedly support F1's decision to remove grid girls from the starting grid,” said Stewart Pringle. “It is an obsolete practice that no longer has any place in sport”.
