F1: Ecclestone, still uncertainty about new Bahrain date

The possible reintroduction of the Bahrain GP into the 1 F2011 calendar is still uncertain following a meeting between the Formula 1 teams on Thursday evening in Monaco.

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone said the Kingdom of Bahrain was now able to host the race "without any safety concerns".

June 3 is the deadline for Ecclestone and the organizers of the desert race to propose reinsertion into the calendar with a new date. The issue will be discussed at the Barcelona meeting of the World Motorsport Council.

One proposal is to move the Indian GP to December 4 but it appears to have been rejected by the teams due to logistical problems and team bosses are also worried about a season that would become too long.

“It's difficult, the problem is the date” admitted Ecclestone.

Martin Whitmarsh, president of FOTA and boss of McLaren, said: "It would make the season too long and tiring for our workers."
