F1 | Doornbos has no doubts: “Sainz may regret the Ferrari choice”

In a chat given to Top Gear Nederland, Robert Doornbos commented on the future in Formula 1 of Carlos Sainz, current driver of the McLaren and future "husband" of Ferrari, underlining how the Spaniard could find himself facing an extremely difficult season not only from a technical point of view, but also from a human one.

After the excellent experience with the Woking Scuderia, Carlos will find himself in his hands with a car with obvious aerodynamic and mechanical deficiencies, an aspect that will almost certainly force him to face Charles Leclerc, his future teammate, in a situation of clear disadvantage.

“Sainz is slowly approaching the peak of his performance,” said the former Dutch driver. “I can't imagine a driver not happy about signing for Ferrari, but he could be the first to find himself in this situation."

“They have no pace on the straight, probably due to the scandal that broke out last year, and the car is not balanced,” he continued. “Moreover, McLaren is returning to the top of the standings and with the Mercedes engine they will have the chance to stabilize at the top.”

“The team could fight for important positions in the standings and Sainz will find himself in the position of having to give up that seat,” he concluded.
