F1 | Doornbos agrees with Verstappen: “Red Bull will not compete for the title in 2021”

In a chat given to Ziggo Sport, robert doornbos spoke about the future of Max Verstappen in Red Bull, underlining how the Dutchman has very little chance of competing for the world title in 2021. According to the former driver, the Austrian team still has a fairly large gap from Mercedes, an aspect that will push the latter to act as a "hare" also in the next Formula 1 world championship. A "mangy" situation that will almost certainly create friction between the Dutchman, eager to have a competitive package in his hands, the management of four-time World Champion team.

“Max only analyzed the situation realistically,” said the Dutchman. “In Formula 1 you have to have goals in mind and on paper there are few ways to improve the car in 2021. Apart from a few wildcards I would say that not much should change. There's no point in focusing on the championship if you know it won't work. After all, Red Bull as a team is built around him. He should enjoy the world championship and wait for a competitive package."

On a possible move to Mercedes he added: “I don't think Max wants to do it. Team structures change over the years and the Mercedes of the future may not have the same competitiveness as today. The current situation does not guarantee victories in the future. In Red Bull he has the entire team at his side and they can count on the experience of four titles, which is why these are ingredients that give rise to hope."
