F1 | Domenicali: “There will be no inverted grid, possible sprint race test on Saturday”

Formula One has definitively abandoned the possibility of experimenting with the reversed grid to replace the qualifying session in some world championship events. This was reiterated by the new CEO of the Circus Stefano Domenicali, who took over from the outgoing Chase Carey at the beginning of 2021, who however admitted that experiments could be carried out on Saturdays regarding the sprint race.

"The inverted grille is out – said Domenicali, quoted by Formula1.com after being interviewed by the media this week – I think it's important to maybe think of new ideas to be more attractive, but we must not lose the traditional approach of racing. What we are looking at, for sure, is what the approach of the so-called Saturday sprint could be. We are thinking whether this could be tested as early as this year. There are ongoing discussions with the teams. I think maybe this might be the only thing that might be interesting".

From the best to be implemented to the young talents who will make their debut in Formula One. This is a policy that Domenicali wants to pursue decisively, despite the lack of possibilities (tests) to allow the new generations to train constantly on the track.

"We must pay attention once again to the rookies, the real rookies. Today, since we have fewer tests, we must create opportunities for rookies to drive F1 cars not only in free practice, as is already written in the regulations – admitted the CEO of the Circus – Maybe we can create good events, highlighting the fact that we need to focus on debutants. We have a very good number of young drivers who are already in Formula 1, but we cannot stop this flow".
