F1 | Domenicali analyzes Mercedes' dominance: "The cycles have always been there"

In a chat given to the microphones of "La Gazzetta dello Sport", Stefano Domenicali spoke about the solidity shown by Formula 1 over the last few seasons, underlining how the dominance signed by Mercedes has not affected the pool of spectators who carefully follow the category queen of motorsport.

According to the Italian Manager, new CEO of Liberty Media starting next January 1st (he will take the place of the resigning Chase Carey), Formula 1 has managed to maintain its strengths despite the many successes of the Stuttgart company, an aspect which this fact has denied the many rumors of a "crisis" that have circulated in recent weeks.

“Today's Formula 1, as a global sporting and business platform, is still the one that has the highest number of spectators and fans, therefore it is very strong and solid,” declared Stefano Domenicali. “Many have tried to push her into a corner by saying she's old and no longer interesting. It's not absolutely true. I think that on the contrary there will be more and more interest from manufacturers, private teams and many other entities. We will prove it with facts. We will make the emotional part grow."

On the Mercedes dominance he instead stated: “Mercedes has been winning for years, but there have always been cycles. It is right to gather the stimuli and we must ensure that our sport puts the drivers increasingly back at the centre. Like, for example, in motorcycling, where it is perceived that it is the rider who makes the difference. And on this front, Formula 1 has never been in better shape than it is now with so many drivers so young and so strong. Of course, it is clear that the car element has a very important weight. A weight that is lifted only when there are unpredictable situations such as in the second Bahrain Grand Prix."

“When the cards are shuffled, extraordinary races come out, but it's not enough, which is why we have created the new regulations that will come into force in 2022. But the show also passes through other development paths: we want to involve people more through the pilots. Ours will have to be a great offer of sports, entertainment and music. A Grand Prix must be like a concert, represent a unique experience." concluded the Italian Manager.
