F1 | TV rights in Spain, the collaboration between Movistar and DAZN is born

Change apparently and substantially irrelevant as regards the broadcasting of Formula 1 in Spain. Just as we anticipated just under a year ago, DAZN has reached an agreement with the Movistar for the broadcast of the World Cup on its app, but not only: with an agreement similar to that Sky/DAZN as regards football in Italy, the paid streaming service will already have two channels on the Spanish satellite platform (which held the rights until 2023), where it will broadcast, in addition to MotoGP, also Formula 1 starting from 2021, plus other content such as the Premier League, the English football championship and the Copa del Rey.

Rights, it is worth underlining, pass exclusively to DAZN, and therefore it will be the only TV in Spain to broadcast Formula 1, however also taking advantage of the satellite platform Movistar, with a total discount for those who had subscribed to the Formula 1 channel. In fact, starting from March 1st it will be opened on the Spanish satellite DAZN F1, which will be added to DAZN 1 and DAZN 2 active today. Movistar has made it known that the Formula 1 team will move on entirely DAZN, so we will still see Antonio Lobato, Pedro de la Rosa, Noemi de Miguel and Albert Fabrega among others around the paddocks. It is an important movement, with 2021 offering the return of Fernando Alonso to Formula 1 and the arrival of Carlos Sainz in Ferrari, challenging the not so exciting ratings in recent years in Spain.

“The agreement with Movistar+ is a great example of how platforms and operators can collaborate to offer a more satisfying experience for sports fans – commented James Rushton, co-CEO of DAZN. It is an important moment for our company, it is a strategy aimed at growing our main markets. Starting from March, our customers in Spain will be able to widely follow Formula 1, with DAZN which will therefore be the reference platform for motoring enthusiasts."

“This collaboration with DAZN strengthens our sports offering – admitted Emilio Gayo, president of Telefonica. It is a relationship that reaffirms our commitment to offering our customers the best of our content, through original productions and the most relevant content. DAZN arrives on Movistar +, an alliance that will celebrate all the successes of sport."
