F1 | Demaison on the Williams revolution: “We need to make a lot of changes in the team”

In an interview granted to Auto Hebdo, Francois-Xavier Demaison spoke about the revolution that Jost Capito is bringing within Williams, specifying how the aim of the new management is to make people forget about a working method that was brought to Grove been going on for about 20 years and which is no longer suitable for the world of Formula 1.

According to the current Technical Director of the English team, promoted to this role by Jost Capito last winter, Williams must recover the ground lost in the last two years by its competitors and this can only happen with a technical, structural and methodological revolution.

“Williams cannot continue to operate in the same way,” Demaison said. “At Grove there are a lot of people who have worked together for a long time and everything is built around them. We have been doing the same things for about 20 years and this is a process that must change for the future."

“Today the way of working in Formula 1 has changed and as a team we have to adapt,” he continued. “The big problem is that Williams, in recent seasons, has not evolved at the same pace as Formula 1. This sport has become very complex, but it seems that someone wants to protect themselves by using this excuse. This is a big cultural change but one that must be continued."

“Experience is important and cannot be bought, but it must still be used wisely. In many ways I think Williams is still covered in the shadow of Ayrton Senna's death. At Grove, a car has to be safe before it can be fast, but in reality the two things have to go hand in hand." he concluded
