F1 | Damon Hill: “Sainz impressed me with his leadership”

Damon Hill has no doubts. In fact, for the 1996 world champion, the name of Carlos Sainz stands out among the two Ferrari drivers in terms of leadership.

For the former Williams driver, the Spaniard, protagonist of solid performances in recent races including Silverstone where he won his first career victory, manages to impose himself more on strategies than his teammate Charles.

Even if Hill himself wanted to underline that at Ferrari it will be necessary to clarify the roles and decisions to be made. A situation which, if it is resolved, could allow the Cavallino team to actually compete for the championship against Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

"Carlos struck me as the leader of the team – Hill told Sky Sports UK – He seems to be more familiar with strategy, he seems to be able to make decisions. Someone has to take charge and say we are making a decision. Either he is the pilot or the strategist, there must be a clear direction. The potential is huge and if Ferrari can solve these problems, they will really be a threat. If they can do that between now and the end of the season, the championship could be a very close goal".
