The war between Max Verstappen and the Renault team continues after numerous squabbles last season. In an interview given during the last Hungarian Grand Prix, in fact, the Dutchman joked about the power levels declared by the French engineer, underlining the strong discrepancy that exists between the nominal values, i.e. those declared by the team, and those represented on the track by the drivers.

Renault, let's remember, is facing a moment of great difficulty, with Ricciardo and Hulkenberg who were unable to collect important points during these summer championship trips. A complex situation that the French team hopes to resolve with new upgrades planned for Spa and Monza.

“Renault claims to have 1000 horsepower? Then their car is really ugly,” joked Max Verstappen during the last Hungarian Grand Prix. “I am of the opinion that we need to talk through the track and not in the press”.

Remi Taffin, engine chief of the Renault team, also spoke on the topic, underlining how the French team manages to push its power unit to the maximum only for brief moments: “We have some performance peaks in qualifying, but we cannot consistently provide these performances to our drivers. How much depends on many factors, such as the track and the ambient temperatures."
