F1 | Cosworth considers a return to Formula 1, but only with an external partner
Bruce Wood explains the intentions of the British company: "We are unlikely to be independent, the economic aspect is a problem"
As explained by Liberty Media, the new motor regulations, in force since 2021, will have among its main aims that of attracting a greater number of manufacturers than the current four (Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault, Honda). To confirm this, in recent months, there have been rumors of a possible return to the Circus, among others, Aston Martin, Ilmor e Cosworth: the CEO of the latter, Bruce Wood, interviewed by Motorsport, commented on this indiscretion, reducing to a minimum the possibility of landing in Formula 1 as an independent engineer. “First of all, it must be said that we would like to be in Formula 1. Our significant involvement in the ongoing discussions has been widely reported, However, it's unlikely you'll see a completely independent Cosworth: the economic side is a difficult problem to resolve” - he has declared.
Wood, on the other hand, said he was in favor of a possible return to Formula 1 for the British company collaboration with another partner: “We hope to enter into a partnership with a small OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, manufacturer of original components, ed.) who is willing to submit to the new regulations, in the hope that the financial commitment to enter Formula 1 will be minimal".
