F1 | The controversy over Ferrari batteries continues: FIA ready to install a new monitoring system on the SF71H

Despite Charlie Whiting's reassurances to Reuters regarding Ferrari's hybrid system, the Federation will study solutions to manage the SF71H's dual battery system. The single-seater of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, we remember, has an energy store with two distinct and separate outputs compared to all the other teams. This factor, especially after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, has created quite a bit of controversy, with Mercedes protagonist of a real hunt for irregularities. According to what was reported by the Brackley Scuderia staff, in fact, the Scuderia managed to extract more energy from the battery pack, unbalancing the output from it.

Since the sensor was positioned on only one output, Ferrari, according to Mercedes, exploited the second channel to bypass FIA controls, giving the drivers a small power boost. The checks did not prove all this, but to avoid further controversy on the matter, Charlie Whiting underlined how the FIA will install slightly different battery management software on the SF71H, with the aim of studying, in a more in-depth way, the dual exit. The changes will be made in Canada and compared to Monaco, a track where power is not a predominant factor, we will see if the Scuderia from Maranello will suffer a small "slowdown" in terms of performance.

Here are the words of Charlie Whiting: “Ferrari mounts a double exit system and it is a unique solution. Being inexperienced in this field, given that all the teams install a single energy store, Ferrari will install modified software that will allow us to carefully evaluate the outputs. We will try to understand the difference between the two parts of the energy store and the related outputs."
